Stroke Guide
| FREESTYLE |
- Forward Start.
- Touch the wall after each length with any part of the body.
- Stopping is permitted but the swimmer must not push off the bottom or pull along the lane ropes.

| BREAST STROKE |
- Forward start.
- After the start one underwater arm pull and one kick.
- Shoulders must be in line with the water surface.
- Hands push together from the breast and must not be brought past the hip line*
- Head must break the surface of the water during each stroke cycle.
- Legs must move simultaneously.
- Feet must be turned outward during the propulsive part of the kick.
- Touch the wall simultaneously with two hands in the same plane.
*Except for the first underwater stroke after the start. |
| BACK STROKE |
- Backward start with both hands on the starting grips.
- Start with toes under the surface of the water.
- Swim must be continuous.
- Head must not turn past the vertical when swimming or touching the wall*.
- Touch the wall each length with any part of the body.
Except of it is part of the continuous motion during the turn.

BUTTERFLY |
- Forward start.
- After the start on underwater arm pull and one or more kicks.
- Arms must move simultaneously.
- Legs must move simultaneously.
- Touch the wall simultaneously with two hands with the shoulders in line with the water surface.
